Our Design Response

  • Systemic Approach: Designed as an ecosystem linking individuals, local organisations, and community events.

→ Encourages sustained cultural participation rather than one-off interactions.

  • Human-Centred Design: Built around shared cooking and food experiences to reduce cultural barriers.

  • Digital & Physical Integration: Combines online discovery (map, community feed) with offline interaction (classes, local events).

  • Inclusive Onboarding: Welcomes both new migrants and long-term residents to create mutual exchange.

  • Empowerment Focus: Allows users to host, share, and celebrate their heritage, fostering agency and pride.

Refinement and Final Iteration

final design solution

We began with our rough sketch to begin iterations, then we visualised the first iterations of our project in connecting immigrants with each other. From our developed features and narrowed-down focus groups, we were able to make some adjustments to our design.

More adjustments were made from the user testing fair, where some users found it hard to navigate, with some icons being confusing, a lack of mistake prevention, and confusing features.

KEY FEATURES

Cooking classes

Cooking classes form the heart of the system, creating real-world opportunities for immigrants to meet locals and learn cultural recipes together.
